AFTER THE SESSION
A few days after the session, a sneak peek will be available on social media. These images will have my logo on them and if you’re friends with Clear Photography-Owatonna, you will get tagged. Feel free to use these images as profile photos or share.
About a week after your session, you will receive an email with a link to your gallery where you can download images and/or place photo orders. The email will explain downloading. You’re free to share this email with anyone you would like.
THANKS FOR CHOOSING CLEAR PHOTOGRAPHY!
As a creative artist, I want to provide you with well thought out images. I spend hours planning each newborn shoot and what should be involved with each set. I pull sets based on your preferences. When you get here, we will talk and rate some of the sets. I always pull more sets than we have time for, so the last couple sets don’t typically make it, as I know you won’t like everything I pull, that is just part of the process. If during the session you really don’t like a set, let me know. I don’t want to spend time shooting something that you don’t like. If you want complete control over what I pull, I do offer an upgrade consult session where we pick your sets in person a couple weeks before your session. Please contact me for more information on private in-person upgrade consults.
Make sure you come prepared to be in a few of the photos. You may not be feeling like a supermodel quite yet but getting in the photos with your infant will create some lasting memories you’ll both treasure. Wear neutral colors like creams, mild tones, and soft hues or classic black for these portraits. Stay away from pinks and peaches if your child has jaundice or baby acne, in camera these will cast more hues on them that cannot be photoshopped realistically. It’s best to avoid chunky jewelry and watches, which can be distracting elements and will look dated years from now. Strive for timeless photos that will be staples in your home for decades to come.
DURING THE SESSION
Parking: Please park in the driveway and come to the front door.
265 Oakwood Lane
We will start with the family photo. The family photo is usually done on classic colors to keep the focus on baby and the family.
Next is a sibling shot. After this photo, the older siblings can take off with dad or grandma, as trying to sit still and quiet is very difficult even for adults. After that part is over, we will move to just baby.
We start baby with wrapped poses first. Wrapped up is when they will sleep the soundest. As we progress through the session, the poses will become more complex. Not all babies can do all poses. Some babies will refuse to lay certain ways, put their hands certain ways or physically are less formable. Don’t worry, we will still get a ton of unique photos of your newborn that works for their little body.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
To prepare for fussy moments, you’ll want to have a few things ready — a pacifier, a bottle of formula/breastmilk, a swaddling blanket, and a few clean diapers. Bring yourself something to drink if you would like.
I have outfits, wraps, props and everything for baby. You can certainly bring items to your sessions, and we will incorporate them into our session.
Most parents leave the entire process of sets, props and backdrops up to me. This does let my creativity flow and reduces stress of planning for you.
Some parents want a say in the process, but don’t know where to start. I find it helpful to look through my website and facebook page for ideas that you like. Feel free to screenshot and send them my way as you find them. I cannot guarantee any particular prop or image, but I will do my best to create the look you’re trying to achieve.
Keep them awake beforehand.
It’s no secret that infants sleep a lot. Sometimes, their sleep patterns don’t cooperate with our
plans. If you want your little one sacked out during the photo session, so you can get those
adorable sleepy newborn poses, keep them up for a while before the session.
Making sure you keep your baby awake prior to a session is a great way to guarantee they will
sleep through most of it. That will lead to peaceful pictures, instead of ones where they look
enraged or red-faced from crying.
Feed 30 minutes before the session.
What’s cuter than a milk-drunk infant? (Hint: the answer is nothing!). Avoid giving them a full
meal in the one to two hours before your session. If they seem hungry, try to give them a small
snack to get them through. Then, slightly before your session, you can feed them a full meal
and expect a happy, tired baby in return.
Sit back and watch
This one’s for you, Mama. Babies can smell their parents. The closer you are to them, the
less deep in sleep they will be. Also, try not to stress if your newborn is being fussy. Babies
can feel their mama’s stress or tension, so if you’re calm, your infant may relax too.
Please note: Not all poses that you see on pintrest are safe. I take great pride in my work and what to provide you with everything I can, but I will under no circumstances do a photo that was seen on pintrest (or elsewhere) that is unsafe.
